Yggdrasill Carbon: Nature Monitoring in East Iceland

Founded in Egilsstaðir, Iceland in 2020, Yggdrasill Carbon (YGG) is a company that works in and with the nature of Iceland, developing climate projects that provide verified carbon credits.

YGG needed a solution that could help them accurately assess the feasibility and risk of their project areas, plan project activities, and establish a digital baseline scenario to measure progress throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, they needed a way to communicate the impact of their projects to buyers of carbon credits and other stakeholders in a transparent and effective way.

"YGG is collaborating with Svarmi to generate detailed nature-based data for forestry and other climate projects eligible for certified carbon credits" says Project Manager Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir, who has been working alongside Svarmi. "Certifying a carbon project is a rigorous process, requiring each project to undergo various stages such as feasibility studies, stakeholder consultations, thorough area mapping, monitoring, and verification. To maximize benefits for both the project and the natural environment, Svarmi maps the area before any activities commence, ensuring the most sustainable and feasible actions are taken. The area is then remapped every five years to track project development and measure benefits. All data is stored in Datact, providing accessible information for regular verification and monitoring throughout the project period."
